Minecraft Enters Metaverse with ‘NFT Worlds’

Minecraft is getting a Web3 update, thanks to an NFT collective called ‘NFT Worlds’ selling the code for unique worlds inside the popular video game. Minecraft Gets a Web3 Update NFT Worlds’ blockchain layer on Minecraft will allow players to access Web3 features, such as an online shop where they can buy items for their Minecraft experience using its $WRLD ERC-20 token. While anyone can technically build a world within Minecraft, NFT Worlds effectively puts these worlds on the blockchain, making them resellable. The goal is to create interconnected but decentralized digital worlds on top of the popular game that will be stored on the blockchain. NFT Worlds claims to have chosen Minecraft because it already has a ‘thriving ecosystem’ of mods, user-generated game modes, cosmetic items, and maps. “We didn’t want to have to ‘reinvent the wheel’ by creating our own unproven game from scratch, while also having to innovate on the NFT integration & decentralized metaverse side of the platform we envisioned. This would take far too long to deliver on,” the project’s documentation states.
